Congratulations to Mónica Núñez for publishing first Ph.D. thesis chapter!

We are happy for Mónica’s big accomplishment towards completion of her PhD degree in Systematics and Biodiversity! One big step to illuminate taxonomic and systematic gaps in one of the most species-rich genera (Thouarella) of primnoid gorgonians. They are also key components among deep-sea communities from Antarctica.

Guillermo Figueroa receives prestigious ANID scholarship for M.Sc. studies

Guillermo recently joined our lab from Puerto Cisnes in Aysén region, southern Patagonia. He will be studying ecology and genetics of brown trout, one of Chile’s least known invasive species, but perhaps one of the most successful. Guillermo’s has broad interests in aquatic ecology, ranging from invertebrate taxonomy to ecology of non-native salmonids.

A summary of the EGGS 2015 course

The EGGS course took place during the first week of January 2015. We welcomed four international speakers and five from within Chile who contributed crucially to the success of this 5-day course. It was an intense but fruitful week, with classes taking place from 9 am to about 5 pm. We finished the week with a well deserved social event outdoors, involving informal interaction between the speakers and the attendants of the course. There was also good weather and nice food.
